With the Dophi IRE Electroporation System, we are adding a key modality to our portfolio for the minimally invasive treatment of prostate cancer: irreversible electroporation (IRE). This opens new therapeutic options for urologists and their patients alike.

The ideal complement to HIFU

HIFU has become an established, minimally invasive treatment option for many patients with localised prostate cancer. But HIFU reaches its physical limits in certain anatomical situations – anterior tumours, calcifications in the acoustic pathway, or tumours in close proximity to critical structures such as the urethra or rectum.

This is exactly where IRE comes in. As a non-thermal modality, electroporation works through short, high-voltage electric pulses that permanently permeabilise the tumour cell membrane – while largely preserving the surrounding extracellular matrix, nerves, vessels and sphincters.

Tumours that are physically out of reach for HIFU can in many cases be treated precisely and gently with IRE.

With HIFU and IRE, we offer urologists an aligned therapeutic portfolio that enables individual, tumour- and patient-specific treatment planning.

The goal remains the same: maximum oncological control with the best possible preservation of quality of life – in particular continence and erectile function.

The Dophi IRE is not limited to urology. In interventional radiology, the system is equally suited for soft-tissue ablation in anatomically complex regions – in particular liver tumours adjacent to the portal vein, hepatic veins or bile ducts, as well as locally advanced pancreatic cancer, where thermal modalities are often ruled out due to surrounding vessels and nerves.

This makes the Dophi IRE a precise, non-thermal treatment option for interventional radiologists as well – covering indications that have been difficult to address with conventional ablation methods such as RFA or MWA.
